How to Get to Dolmabahçe Palace — Transport Guide

The palace is located on the European shore of the Bosphorus, in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, between the neighborhoods of Kabataş and Beşiktaş proper.

The T1 Kabataş–Bağcılar tram line is the most convenient way to reach Dolmabahçe Palace from most tourist areas.

From Sultanahmet / Old City

  1. Board the T1 tram at Sultanahmet station (near Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque)
  2. Ride to Kabataş — the last stop (about 20 minutes)
  3. Exit at Kabataş and walk northeast along Dolmabahçe Caddesi for about 5 minutes
  4. The palace entrance will be on your left

From Eminönü / Galata Bridge

  1. Board the T1 tram at Eminönü station
  2. Ride to Kabataş (about 12 minutes)
  3. Walk 5 minutes to the palace

Cost: Standard İstanbulkart fare (currently around ₺20 per ride)

Tip: Get an İstanbulkart (rechargeable transit card) at any metro station or kiosk. It is required for all public transport in Istanbul and provides discounted fares.

By Ferry

From the Asian Side (Üsküdar/Kadıköy)

  1. Take a ferry from Üsküdar or Kadıköy to Beşiktaş
  2. From Beşiktaş ferry terminal, walk south along the waterfront for about 10 minutes
  3. You will pass the Beşiktaş fish market and waterfront promenade before reaching the palace

From Eminönü

  1. Take a short Bosphorus ferry from Eminönü to Beşiktaş (about 20 minutes)
  2. Walk south from Beşiktaş pier (10 minutes)

The ferry approach offers a beautiful view of the palace from the water — you will see the full 600-meter facade as you approach.

By Bus

Several bus routes pass near Dolmabahçe Palace:

  • Bus 22, 22RE — Kabataş to various points; stops on Dolmabahçe Caddesi
  • Bus 25E — From Sarıyer; stops at Beşiktaş and Kabataş
  • Bus 559C — From the airport area to Taksim, connecting to Kabataş

The closest bus stop is Dolmabahçe (on Dolmabahçe Caddesi), directly in front of the palace entrance.

By Metro + Funicular

From Taksim (via Funicular)

  1. From Taksim metro station (M2 line), transfer to the F1 Taksim–Kabataş funicular
  2. Ride down to Kabataş (2 minutes)
  3. Walk 5 minutes to the palace

This is the fastest option from the Taksim / İstiklal Caddesi area.

On Foot

From Taksim Square

  • Distance: 1.5 km
  • Duration: 20–30 minutes
  • Route: Walk down İnönü Caddesi (Gümüşsuyu Caddesi) — a pleasant downhill walk through a leafy neighborhood, with views of the Bosphorus opening up as you descend. Turn left on Dolmabahçe Caddesi to reach the palace.

From Galataport / Karaköy

  • Distance: 2.5 km
  • Duration: 30–40 minutes
  • Route: Walk along the waterfront promenade from Galataport through Fındıklı to Dolmabahçe. This is a flat, scenic coastal walk with excellent Bosphorus views.

From Beşiktaş Center

  • Distance: 800 m
  • Duration: 10 minutes
  • Route: Walk south along the waterfront from the Beşiktaş ferry terminal.

There is no dedicated visitor parking at Dolmabahçe Palace. Options nearby:

Given Istanbul's traffic and parking challenges, public transport is strongly recommended.

Arriving by Cruise Ship

If arriving at Galataport cruise terminal:
