Below you will find answers to the most common questions visitors ask about Dolmabahçe Palace. For detailed information on specific topics, follow the links to our in-depth guides.

Tickets and Pricing

The combined ticket covering both the Selamlık (ceremonial wing) and Harem (private quarters) is the best value at ₺1,800. If you are short on time, you can buy a single-section ticket. Children under 6 are free, and students with valid ID receive a 50% discount.

Important: The Museum Pass İstanbul does NOT work here. Dolmabahçe is managed by Milli Saraylar, a separate authority. You must buy a Dolmabahçe-specific ticket.

For full ticket details, see our Plan Your Visit guide.

Opening Hours and Best Times

The palace is open Tuesday through Sunday, 09:00–17:30 year-round. Monday is the weekly closure day. Last admission is at 17:00.

The best time to visit is early morning on a weekday — arrive at opening (09:00) on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday for the smallest crowds.

Getting There

The easiest route is via the T1 tram to Kabataş station, then a 5-minute walk. From Taksim, take the F1 funicular to Kabataş. From the Asian side, ferry to Beşiktaş and walk 10 minutes.

See our How to Get There guide for complete directions from every part of Istanbul.

What to Expect Inside

The visit follows a one-way path through the palace rooms. You will see the Medhal Hall, Crystal Staircase, Red Room, Ambassadors' Hall, and the spectacular Ceremonial Hall with its 4.5-ton chandelier. If you have a combined ticket, you then visit the Harem section including Atatürk's Room 71.

Allow 2–3 hours total. The audio guide (₺150) is highly recommended — the rooms have limited signage.
